New additions to the 2004 Passat lineup also debuted at this year's Detroit Show, including a Passat 2.0L TDI sedan and wagon. This new engine choice uses Volkswagen's most advanced diesel technology with state-of-the-art unit injectors that create the industry's highest PSI fuel delivery system. This electronically controlled engine creates an estimated 134 hp and 247 lbs. ft. of torque. The Passat sedan with the TDI engine offers a spirited, high-torque driving experience and exceptional refinement and fuel economy.

The MSRP price of the Passat GL TDI sedan is $23,060 and the Passat GL Wagon TDI is $24,060.

2004 Volkwagen Golf R32

For the first time ever, the Passat sedan and the Passat wagon with the four-cylinder 1.8 T engine are now available with Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. Previously, 4MOTION on the Passat was only available on the V6 version or on the high-end W8. The addition should dramatically broaden the appeal of this advanced all-wheel-drive system as the 1.8 T model represents the best selling engine choice in the model lineup.

The Passat GLS 4MOTION has a starting MSRP of $25,130; the Passat GLS 4MOTION wagon is priced at $26,130.

Also new for 2004 is a sporty and value-packed new Jetta GLI model that goes on sale early this spring. This new 2004 Jetta GLI harkens back to Volkswagen's traditional Jetta GLI theme by offering a special sporty equipment package in a four-cylinder equipped Jetta. The GLI is powered by the automaker's award-winning 1.8 T engine that produces 180 hp and comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, performance tires, a power sunroof, Monsoon sound system, lowered sports suspension, rear spoiler, front and rear valance, side skirts, red GLI badges in front and rear, darkened headlights and taillights and more. Inside the new GLI, you will find special GLI Recaro sports seats, alloy interior treatments (pedals, foot rest, door sills) gray and black interior treatment, a three-spoke perforated leather wrapped steering wheel with gray stitching, and much more.

The MSRP price for the fully equipped 2004 Jetta GLI, which goes on sale later this year, is $23,800.

Built in Bratislava, Slovakia, the R32 comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, 18" alloy wheels, blue four-piston brake calipers, fully independent multi-link rear suspension, true dual exhaust pipes, front and rear stiffened sway bars, rear spoiler, front and rear valance, side skirts and model specific badging on the front grille and left rear. Inside, the R32 and R logos are featured on the high performance sport seats, alloy pedals, leather shift knob, instrument cluster, three-spoke leather steering wheel, door sills and floor mats.

The Touareg V10 TDI comes standard with a 4XMOTION permanent four-wheel drive with low range gear and adaptive torque distribution, six-speed automatic transmission, Electronic Stabilization Program with brake assist as well as Hill Descent and Climb Assist. The EPA rating for the Touareg V10 TDI is 23 on the highway and 17 in the city - a notable figure for a vehicle with this amount of brawn.
